About Linda Kasten
Linda actually began rosemaling at the urging of a friend in 1990. Linda always liked to paint and do other arts and crafts, but rosemaling has become her favorite art form. Since 1990, Linda has never stopped rosemaling. She has sold her rosemaling at craft fairs and in craft stores, but is now ready to try the ever-increasing market of the internet.
Rosemaling, or rose painting covers a wide variety of decorative painting found in the Norwegian countryside from the 1700's. The style that Linda paints is called "Telemark". The Telemark style is recognized by its graceful, elongated leaf forms and flowers. The pattern consists of root, main stem, broad C-shaped central forms and flowers on long, graceful stems. Leaves and stems swirl and curve out in any direction from the root in the center. White or black ourlines accent the flower and leaf shapes. This work requires a love for detail and patience.
About Linda's Rosemaling
Linda rosemals using traditional, Norwegian colors including most earthtones such as browns, blues, reds and earth green. Usually Linda paints on wooden household items, such as plates, bowls, ornaments, jewelry boxes, necklaces & earrings, and spoons. Linda has many items to paint on, but she is also willing to paint by custom order, your own items or wooden ware that she has on hand.
